My favorite celebrity homes!

TGIF or thank God it’s Friday! What a week we had – my husband finally had his ACL replacement surgery which took all day and recovery is painful to say the least. He has not been the best patient with frustration about not being able to move and fighting pain and nausea. Here’s hoping next week is better!

I was thumbing through Architectural Digest and wanted to share my favorite celebrity homes. Here they are in no particular order!

Candace Berger Hampton home. The room has tall ceilings but they have made it look cozy and inviting. Prefer horses over cows but it works here!

The dining room.

The dining room was opened up to the den, at rear, and the living room. Dillingham & Company carved dog under writing table from Notus. Lee Calicchio chandelier. Marvin Alexander brass lamps. Bergamo drapery fabric. Blue chair check, Lee Jofa. Elizabeth Eakins rug.

The house also has a beautiful back porch.

The porch.

Gerard Butler’s NY loft. He does sleep with awful lot of starlets so I guess he needs a cozy space to do it. He transformed the raw space into this rustic baroque medley, bit random but I like it. It certainly doesn’t feel like NY loft.

Yolanda and David Foster’s Malibu home, they divorced and sold it for $19M.

This is the house that included her famous fridge that had it’s own twitter page!

You can obviously only have this Subzero glass door fridge if you have staff. Even any super organized fridge pic on Insta is suspect! You guys I have organized mine, been ready to take a photo to show off and then realized that once I will cook pretty much one single dinner the orderliness will be gone! But it looks good!

House of the week

This hot weather has me dreaming of seaside homes. Our friends have a summer home in a tiny town called Mattapoissett –  a quaint and beautiful town with cutest little beach. It doesn’t pack in crowds like popular destinations on the Cape Cod and it’s much closer that Cape, also, about 2 hour drive from Fairfield County. There are homes for sale for 300-400 000 close the beach or you can buy move in ready houses with amazing water views like this house.

4 beds, 3.5 baths, almost 4000 sq ft and a small yard but you are right on the water. $1,850,000 and taxes are 14.628. Listing can be found here.

Front of the house is rather blah, dark shutters would look fantastic and wake this house up a bit.

What to wear to a casual BBQ.

Hi there, hope you’ve had a wonderful weekend and are enjoying this 3 day weekend! My hubs is heading into ACL surgery Tuesday morning so we packed in all the last minute planting – I need him to dig holes in our heavy clay soil and bring over loads of topsoil and compost. I am so relieved we are finally done! We also managed not one but 3 BBQ’s this weekend!

Here’s what not to wear: too much jewelry, wide sleeves, nothing that’s too fragile like silk or chiffon etc. I mean you are liable to get ketchup on it or play frisbee, you have to be able to get around comfortably.

This combo of nautical stripes and blue jeans is evergreen. I don’t love necklace – it seems little too dressy and will complete with the neckline, earrings would be much better.

This makes me want to go find hot pink jean sorts!

Another classic, casual maxi dress and denim jacket.

White shorts and chambray top. I could live in this all summer.

Blue Oxford and White Shorts

Another version.

I wish i can put this style everyday....very comfyyy and light!!

Cute summer dresses are always a no brainer.

Check out this adorable mama at a food fair in Estonia last year. I am sure when my kids were babies I didn’t get out looking this chic!

Alternatives to usual Memorial Day BBQ dishes

Memorial Day weekend is here – the unofficial start of the summer! Everyone is rushing to get their patio furniture out, cushions dusted, annuals planted etc. I spent 2 hours planting annuals yesterday and back is all sore today. Still have an handful of geraniums to get in the ground and then I am done! At least that’s what I tell myself.

Memorial Day BBQ appetizers are usually chips and salsa with quac, maybe some cheese or veggie dip with charcuterie. I made this tart one year and it was a hit! You can slice it into smaller bites. It’s called Pissaladiere and it does include anchovies, please don’t let that scare you. It really is delicious, anchovies sort of melt away and leave a delicious savory taste.

Or you can make something lighter and brighter:

Hope you all will have a great weekend with friends, family and plenty of relaxation! My oldest daughter will march in a parade with Girl Scouts and I shall probably join my Garden Club friends as we walk through the town waving hello to friends and strangers alike. There’ll be veterans leading the parade, a local school orchestra playing and lots of flags lining the streets. I love these quaint small town moments, it makes me feel happy and secure.

House of the week

This week’s mansion de jour is located on the water in Rowayton which is a cute active seaside community adjacent to Norwalk. They have their own preschools and elementary school but then they go to Norwalk public school system. Prices are very high, this house is $5M: 6B, 6.5 Baths, over 6000 sq ft, small yard but your own private sandy beach. There are neighbors on both sides.

Monday Musings

Good morning! What a thunder we had last night, I thought we were going to get hit by lighting, felt like it was directly above us.

We had a busy week with my sister visiting. I am always so happy for my girls when family comes over, they really enjoy that time.

Us in front of the Rock Center skating area – did those dudes on the right think we were photographing them?

Trip to Sugar Factory.

Sugar Factory was fun – they have several locations and serve massive goblets full of gummy worms and soda with liquid nitrogen, I couldn’t really drink this but girls loved it. Candy is nothing special and it’s really pricey but they loved the whole experience.

2. Decoraid listed 10 best new paint shades for 2019 and I am in love with the clay. I love paint colors that add patina and age to homes. I know white and gray is all the rage but it gets unbelievably boring. I know it’s a safe bet but its like going to a cocktail party where every woman wears a black cocktail dress.

Which Countertops To Choose?

Here are my favorites for countertops rather than a comprehensive list. I have marble in the kitchen right now and while I like the look of it, I absolutely hate how high maintenance and prone to staining it is!

small flower arrangement with red roses and red alstroemeria

Rose and alstroemeria arrangement for the party

It’s expensive, needs to be sealed repeatedly and will show any stain and believe you me you’ll be making many! I can point out where my hubs made margaritas, where my youngest put down her popsicle and where I sliced tomatoes. Lot of people don’t mind the stains but I do. I never feel like it looks clean. However, in certain areas and price brackets it’s almost mandatory to use marble. People expect to see marble counters in kitchen in homes over a million around Farifield county, whereas granite is a norm in homes under a million. Honed marble will look more flat, doesn’t scratch but stains. Polished marble will be much shinier, but will etch and scratch lot quicker.

There’s been a massive growth in the variety of engineered stone and they are great. These quartz based counters all originate from the same source developed in the 60s by Breton company in Italy and are licensed by different companies (Caesarstone etc) and made look different. Engineered stone is super durable, doesn’t stain, and is heat resistant. You can get any look or color variation you desire. It is expensive but IMHO totally worth it. Typical costs range from $55 to $155 per square foot, installed.

House of the week

Did you all know Frank Sinatra owned a house in Weston? Me neither! What is happening in that town? All these strange mansions and celebrity estates. Apparently Frank and Mia Farrow rented it during the 60s. Supercool. All you need is $6M and you can own this place!

6 beds, 8 full and 4 half baths, 12,536 sq ft on 10 acres of land. Taxes $100,558.

Stunning entry with direct river frontage.

It’s a little busy and heavy for me, done by a professional interior designer, you better love the black and white scheme bc it’s everywhere.

60-inch Grand Palais La Cornue six-burner range, a steam oven, warming drawers, Carrara marble and honed Absolute granite countertops, two-story tin ceiling, paneled barrel vault and cove lighting. La Cornue’s Grand Palais range provides your kitchen with six feet of handmade cooktop range, a lava rock grill, electric plates, natural convection gas oven and electric oven. Cast iron, steel, solid brass and porcelain enamel come standard. The base cost is $47,300.

Love this space for storage but I wish they had done either the backsplash or the floor not  both.

Dining room design seems little odd. Doesn’t match the rest of the house.

Well, talk about busy and heavy design! I would have removed these drapes, used lighter colored couches with black and white pillows and throws.

Joy Tribout, one of my favorite interior designers, uses black a lot but in a really chic and tasteful way.

Back to the October Hill house: I think the house was completely renovated in 2010. Not sure if they did anything here. SO much going on.

Much prefer this bath though I am not sure what those dress forms do there.

I think I recognize some pieces from RH here. Hmmmm.

Whichever child is not behaving will get this bathroom.

Much better.

A little English country. There sure is a huge variety of styles to choose from.

I like the bar/pool area and the movie theatre which has candy concession stand, silk wall coverings and a fortune telling machine!

There’s also a Gunite in-ground infinity edge swimming pool; spa; a cabana with a gourmet summer kitchen; and an outdoor fireplace and separate pizza oven.

According to AP News: As one enters this waterfront dream property from the first of two gated driveways, the rear of the house, with its grand staircase and three tiers of hand-quarried Versailles patterned stone porches, comes into view. The long and winding driveway passes along the far side of the river and then crosses the river via the bridge that was specially built to accommodate the weight of emergency vehicles, should they ever need to be called into service.

Monday Musings: LA and Mother’s Day

Happy Monday! I am beyond exhausted, it feels like I havent managed a breather in ages. We were in CA, then I was helping out with a massive local charity tag sale that takes place over the weekend but set up takes all week and work of hundreds of volunteers. The sale was followed by our local garden club annual sale for which we had to dig plants, take care of them and then sell over 4000 plants and baskets. Phew!

1.Since my husband was at a conference in Dana Point, California, I decided to join him and make it a mini-vacay just for us. It was a loooong flight but the setting more than made up for it. We stayed at Ritz Carlton in Dana Point and both the hotel and the grounds were gorgeous. And the view of the ocean was just breath taking. We left the balcony doors open and went to sleep listening to the waves crushing into the beach.

View from our balcony.

His and her sinks with fresh orchids and Asprey toiletries

Hotel is very light and elegant with tons of fresh flowers everywhere. Also, no shortage of marble! Below is a fireplace in the foyer and black marble stairs which I loved.

There were all these people taking selfies and then me photographing the stairs. LOL.

The hotel was full of floral arrangements which I loved. The entry has 2 mirrored console tables on either side full of flowers. These were changed out in every two days or so. I had seen a similar set up at Real Housewives of Orange County Heather Dubrow’s house and I am guessing she saw it here!

We rented an Audi convertible but got upgraded to Range Rover Evoque convertible, the clerk was shocked I hadn’t heard of it before and told me all Saudi princesses request this car. Good to know. I didn’t personally love the look, it looks like Range Rover with a convertible top. It drives well but doesn’t have a sleek sports-car look about it. However, it was a blast to drive it around Laguna Beach area, convertibles are almost mandatory. My hair was a mess though at all times!

We drove up to Alta Park to get a 360 degree view from Top of the World which was really cool: mountains and valleys on one side, palm trees and Pacific ocean on the other. Toured the Mission San Juan Capistrano and had lunch at the local winery. I thought it was interesting that while most plants were succulents (and they had amazing variety), roses also seemed to do well in both private and public gardens.

I might do a post on what to pack for SoCal trips, I definitely didn’t pack the right things!

2.I hope it was a wonderful Mother’s Day for you, celebrating your own and/or your mother. My husband always preps a wonderful brunch with homemade waffles and whipped cream, fruit salad, freshly squeezed OJ, treats and flowers. I loved how my kids pointed out that I am a great mom because I am kind, I take care of them and am fashionable. LOL.

3.Countless of homes have been inspired by Nancy Meyer’s movies such as Something’s Got To Give, It’s Complicated, The Holiday etc. This stunning Long Island home was inspired by Something’s Got to Give.

Spring Decor Updates

Hi there! It’s so cold here in CT, temperatures hovering around 50s and maybe low 60s if we are lucky. Everything is in bloom outside so spring must be on its way. I have a beautiful crab apple that is covered in blooms and it looks absolutely stunning. Haven’t gotten to the local nurseries yet but can’t wait to go.

I have been doing some sprucing up inside though. Check out my finds, most are on sale! I love candles in hurricanes, Pottery Barn has a great section of both. Love these Arlington hurricanes, currently on sale for $69.

Arlington Nickel Hurricane

Pottery Barn also carries my fave fake candles, these are not cheap but last forever and they look real. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen a guest holding their hand over it to see if it’s real. Depending on the size they range in price from $54 – $194. I love that you can set a timer, usually 5 hrs, and it comes on every night.

I love placemats, it’s so easy to update the color seasonally and it just makes the table setting so pretty. However, I hate what they look like after you wash them! They always shrink and no longer look nice and crisp. So disappointing. These quilted placemats hold up better, but be sure to launder them in cold water on gentle cycle.
